How do I get a copy of vanilla so I can patch it to Sonic Riders DX / Sonic Riders Regravitified?

Legally speaking, the only way is to dump your existing copy of NTSC-U Sonic Riders / Sonic Riders Zero Gravity. You can find more details here: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Ripping_Games

Otherwise, https://www.google.com/ is your friend.

Can I play these games online?

Yes. Both our mods work on Dolphin Emulator, which has a built-in online functionality called netplay. To get started, checkout the Multiplayer Setup page.

And no, you can't play online using a console (Gamecube/Wii).

My game is lagging. What do I do?

We have our own build of Dolphin, ExGL Dolphin, which is pre-loaded with settings that optimize the performance of both Riders games. You can find it on our Downloads page.

If you still end up having performance issues, you can ask for help in the #tech-support channel in the Discord server.

How do I participate in tournaments? / How can I get into the competitive scene?

We host tournaments every two weeks on Saturdays, There are also unofficial tournaments that pop up time to time. These events are announced in the #tournament-announcements channel in the Discord server. Click the link, create an account, and register for the tournament. Make sure you read the Tournament Rules page before you sign up.

How do I get better? Are there any tutorials for this game?

We provide many resources to help onboard new players.

We have a YouTube channel where we post guides designed for newcomers; channels in our Discord server with resources for each game; a master spreadsheet that contains data for characters, gears, and explanations for various concepts in the games. Also, many top players are willing to help teach you the game if you approach them.

Where can I find the list of music in the mod?

You can find the music list at the bottom of the credits file that comes with the mod download.

How can I select which song plays?

With music added in both DX and Regravitified, the player in the first controller port can select music during the loading screen. While using the texture packs for each respective game, the button required for each song is displayed in the Stage Select Screen.

For playing a stage's original song, you hold down the A button for DX and the B button for RG.

Why can't I pause?

You still can! Just hold the pause button. In a tournament situation, pausing usually results in a forfeit of the round, so we've eliminated the possibility of an accidental pause.

Pausing before the race starts works as normal so players can select the music that plays.

Can I use any controller to play these games?

Using Dolphin Emulator's controller bindings, yes you can. Even a keyboard can be used to emulate a controller.

However, for Regravitified, controllers must be bound as a GameCube Controller. This is because the features added to Regravitified, such as Gear Change Cycling and Boost, require extra buttons not present on the Wii Remote.

What do all these acronyms/terms mean?

Here's a list of some common acronyms and terms you might encounter within the community:

SR: Sonic Riders (as a series)
OG: unmodded, vanilla Sonic Riders
ZG or SRZG: unmodded, vanilla Sonic Riders Zero Gravity
DX or SRDX: Sonic Riders DX
RG or SRRG: Sonic Riders Regravitified

Attack Sliding: Charging jump while doing a drift to prevent boost from ending because you're charging jump.

You can find more in-depth information on our
master spreadsheet.

How can I support the team?

Short answer, we don't accept donations. Extreme Gear Labs operates as a non-profit because we don't believe it's ethical for us to take money when it comes to modding. We live for the community.

If you would like to support the community, you can support the competitive scene by donating to the prize pool of our latest tournament.

What is the difference between Sonic Riders DX (SRDX) and Sonic Riders Tournament Edition (SRTE)?

Up until the end of December 2020 (4 months after the release of SRTE v1.3), SRTE was developed by the same team that now works on Sonic Riders DX. Long story short, many circumstances involving harassment of community members and developers lead to a unanimous decision amongst the development team to leave the SRTE Discord server and form Extreme Gear Labs.

Sonic Riders DX is the true successor to SRTE v1.3, created by the same developers; just under a new name.

Where can I find older versions of the mods?

We archived outdated versions here:

These are all patchers, so you will need an NTSC-U copy of vanilla (for the respective game) to patch from. Instructions are included with the download.
